Addicted to SUGAR!!!

It happened… again… for like the 7 time in the last 10 years… I had to reset my diet. That scale kept going up giving me results I did not desire despite my efforts to be more active, workout, and run.

So once again… I started a clean diet… only whole foods…

That first week was horrible! Brain fog… headaches… irritableness… sugar cravings… Though I had done this several times before I never noticed my dependency of artificial sugars.

I’m sure it started with saying yes to a treat during a gas station stop- Laffy Taffy and energy drinks… probably. Then it went to giving into those sugary cravings by making myself some jelly toast… and before I knew it, it was just the way it was.

But the way it was… it was not producing good fruit.

Sometimes we get so used to the way things are we forget to evaluate the fruit.

In Galatians 5, Paul says, 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

What are the fruits of your life? Is it love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? Or do some of the works of the flesh seem a little more accurate.

Listen, we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We all backslide. We all make mistakes. But there are things we can do to be more intentional about Walking in the Spirit.

Maybe, you need to reset your diet… your spiritual diet. Carve out a time of the day to read your Bible, spend time with God, and pray.

Maybe you need to give up a secret sin…

Maybe you need to surround yourself with people who will point you to the Lord.

Whatever it is, there is no better time than now!
