“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the wind blew and beat against the house, and it fell, and great the fall of it (Matthew 7:27).”

As I was reading this verse, the thought of Humpty Dumpty came into my head. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. And all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again.

Maybe that’s because horses and men weren’t designed to put him together. Man was designed, created by, God. And God gave man value and purpose. Sadly, man looks to earthly things and pleasure to satisfy him… her.

And when the storms of life come, man… woman… falls right with the kingdom he/she created to satisfy him/her. Much like Humpty Dumpty.

In the prior verses, Jesus tells us the wise man builds his house on the rock. The rock of faith is Jesus Christ.

Listen, I tried to build my own kingdom. I followed the ways of the world that I thought would satisfy me, but in the end, I felt empty. Then one day my kingdom came crashing down, and I had no place to look but up.

I surrendered.

And I let the Lord show me how to rebuild my life on a firm foundation of faith in Jesus Christ. One brick at a time… It started with prayer. Then learning what God actually says by reading the Bible. And becoming more and more active in church and faith communities. Then it came with more radical steps of obedience. One step at a time, the Lord showed me how to work with Him rather than trying to do it all on my own and failing.

Storms of life will happen. Make sure you have firm foundation to withstand it.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24).”

We cannot just be hearers of the word. We need to do what it says as well.
