I have a child who doesn’t like to read. Well as a homeschooler, he is expected to read… a lot… and often. Earlier, I asked him to read a part of his Social Studies book. After he read it and put it away, I asked him what it was about. “Economics.” Ok what about economics? “Income.” Ok what is income? “Part of economics.”

I opened his book back up and asked him to tell me about the reading. He started telling me single words that were not connected again. Son, did you read the material?

Well, I don’t like reading, so I only skimmed it and looked at the important words.

But kid! By skimming it, you missed what those words meant, how to use them, and how they are connected.

Guess what he got to do again. He also learned an important lesson, if you don’t do it correctly, you have to do it again.

Who’s guilty here?

Show of hands. Who only reads what they want to hear when they read their Bibles? Jesus love me.  “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord…” (Btw we take that one out of context often.)

What about the parts that you are a sinner, fall short of the glory of God, and none are righteous? Jesus saves us because we can’t save ourselves. This is not a reason to wallow in self-pity but to celebrate our Savior.

Ok better question, who reads his/her Bible daily because he/she wants to know, grow, and go for Christ?

See, often times I think Christians like to skim Christianity. They take what they like and apply it to their own lives and expect God to bless off on their will.

This is NOT the message of Christianity.

Following Christ means dying to yourself. Surrendering your will and align yourself with His will. A life committed to Christ is a life bearing fruit of the Spirit.

When Ben and I got married, I wanted two kids… God had another and better plan.

I never wanted to be a stay at home mom… God called me to quit my job and have more kids.

I had heard of teaching online ESL, but I was skeptical of doing it. God put another Christian lady in my path who was working this job and helped me get plugged into this new career.

I did not see a reason to further my education. God, put a desire in my heart to disciple and further my education.

The life I wanted had to be surrendered, so I could submit and accept God’s will for my life. And it is so much better than anything I ever planned for myself.

You cannot add Christ to your busy life.

Please hear this- You cannot add Christianity to your worldview. You must see the world through Christianity. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Follow Him. Submit to Him. Allow Him to change your life for His glory!

It’s all for Him!

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. ” Galatians 2:20
